How did your network start?
The South JeffCo Church Collaboration started in October of 2011 when leaders from six churches in west Littleton began meeting together with one goal in mind: To break down the silos between individual congregations and begin working together as Christ’s unified Church. We spent the next year-and-a-half building relationships with one another while exploring ways we could engage our community. Each month, we invited a different city or county leader to join our group for a round-table discussion around some of the biggest needs in Jefferson County. We learned about the government services already in place throughout our city, those that still aren’t available due to a lack of funding, and others that need community partners to help tackle the problem in new ways. That time was incredibly valuable and taught us two things: (1) we are more effective working as a group than individually, and (2) there are needs in the community the church and county can collaborate on addressing together. At the end of that initial time, we walked away as good friends who had a better understanding of the issues in our county that would benefit from partnerships with the local Church.
What are you focused on now?
Three years later, our network of churches continues to collaborate on several community efforts. Recognizing the growing needs of seniors in our area, we launched a ministry through Love Inc. called Seniors Access that addresses the social and spiritual needs of active seniors in Jefferson County. We also host an annual community service day called Day2Serve, in which we see 1,000 volunteers from six churches come together to serve at over 50 sites throughout the city. Our newest partnership is with our local high schools. We are working with the various principals to provide a network of care and support for the teachers, staff, and families of each local school. As we engage these various service opportunities in west Littleton, we would like to expand our partnership and see 3-5 new churches join our group in 2015. If you have a passion for community collaborations and a heart for our city, we would love to invite you to join us for our next meeting on the fourth Wednesday of the month from 11:00am-1:00pm.
